If you know Harry Potter, you might remember the scene in Goblet of Fire where Harry, the Weasley’s and Hermione are hiking somewhere and they come upon an old boot in the middle of a field. Harry exclaims, “Why are we all standing around this manky old boot?” The boot, it turns out, is a port key which transports them to the Quiddich World Cup.
I have been thinking a lot about life lately and how crappy it can be sometimes. Life is not all sunshine and lollipops; it’s more like a manky old boot, dirty, rotten, worn out, unpleasant. And with mankind’s fallen nature, I have to think that God looks at us and sees a manky old boot as well. So, the analogy works all the way around.
I hope to examine this manky old boot in pretty good detail. I already know it isn’t going to be pretty, or all that pleasant most of the time but, I hope that it takes me someplace else, someplace unexpected.
